Our private 1-on-1 bird photography tours offer photographers the optimal environment to capture stunning imagery of Vesterålen’s diverse avian life. With extensive local knowledge, we guide you directly to prime locations for everything from small songbirds to majestic raptors and waterfowl.

Dedicated Photography Spots & Seasonal Highlights

• Small Birds: Available year-round, with autumn, winter, and spring being the most recommended seasons. From dedicated bird-feeding stations, you can photograph species such as the willow tit, blue tit, great tit, bullfinch, greenfinch, redpoll, and various sparrows.
• Ducks, Herons, Swans & Loons: Offered during spring and summer. Target species include arctic loons, arctic terns, grey herons, swans, tufted ducks, pintails, shovelers, red-breasted mergansers, common shelducks, and mallards. These locations also frequently yield sightings of owls, eagles, waders, and local mammals.
• Owls: Conducted in spring and summer, primarily at night under the Midnight Sun (late May is highly recommended). We track short-eared owls, long-eared owls, and northern hawk owls annually, with occasional sightings of smaller boreal owls.
• Waders: Photographed at multiple accessible locations throughout Vesterålen, utilizing either vehicles or specialized photo blinds depending on the target species.
• Leks, Raptors & Photo Hides:
  • Black Grouse Lek: Photographed from a hide during April and June.
  • Ruff Lek: Observed in May and June.
  • Golden Eagles & Goshawks: Goshawk hide photography is available from April to early June. We also operate a dedicated photo hide at a fox baiting site for golden eagles (access is carefully managed to avoid disturbing the birds).
  • Other Raptors & Jaegers: Opportunities exist for merlins, buzzards, and falcons (requiring patience, luck, and longer hikes off-road), while parasitic jaegers can be observed at their summer island nesting territories.
  • Dedicated Photo Hide: Guests can also book our main photo hide, which attracts a rich variety of bird species.
