Vesterålen offers a rich variety of animal species, and our customized tours are designed for guests who wish to focus on specific or rarer wildlife that is less commonly seen on standard safaris. Whether you are looking for specific bird species or elusive mammals, we can adapt the tour to target your preferences.

Please note that due to the geographic distances between different habitats, it is not always possible to combine all requested species into a single tour. Because these trips target rarer animals, there is a higher chance of not finding the specific species, and schedules are more sensitive to weather conditions than our standard wildlife tours. However, you will still have excellent opportunities to spot other local wildlife along the way. Most customized tours are conducted by car unless walking or hiking is required for specific species.

Available Wildlife Options

Depending on the season and your specific interests, you can choose to focus on the following species:

• Willow Ptarmigan: Available during spring, summer, early autumn, and winter.
• Rock Ptarmigan: Found on the mountains surrounding Sortland. This tour requires a 30 to 60-minute hike on foot. Pickup is available at your hotel, or we can meet at the trailhead. Available in summer, autumn, and early winter.
• Eurasian Otter: Accessible year-round throughout Vesterålen, though they are one of the most elusive species to spot.
• White-Tailed / Sea Eagle: Observed year-round on our car-based tours.
• Golden Eagle: Exclusively available for observation from our specialized photo hide.
• Black Grouse: Best and easiest access occurs during spring and summer.
• Foxes: Fox cubs can be observed during summer and early autumn.
