Photograph Vesterålen’s Native Owls

Join us on a dedicated owl photo tour starting from Sortland, designed to give photographers and wildlife enthusiasts the best opportunities to observe and photograph local owl species. All tours are conducted by car, allowing us to cover key habitats across Vesterålen efficiently and comfortably.

While owls are present in the region year-round, the primary season runs from May through August, when daylight conditions provide excellent viewing and photography opportunities. Sightings are less frequent from September through April, though the winter months still offer good opportunities to spot Northern Hawk-owls against the snow.

The species encountered most frequently on these tours include the Short-eared owl, Long-eared owl, and Northern Hawk-owl. Other owl species also inhabit Vesterålen; however, guests interested in seeing a wider variety of species may also consider our longer Midnight Sun wildlife safaris, which provide higher chances of encountering additional wildlife.
